The weekend before last we made our first overseas trip from here - a daytrip to Samos! It's quite weird coming from a place where it takes 3 hours by plane to get to your nearest neighbour! Anyway, we had a great time. We travelled down to Kuşadası (Kushadasur), about an hour's intercity bus from here and met up with some kiwi's we know through Renee's Kindy back in NZ. It was nice to meet up with them and hang out - we stayed a couple of nights and made a daytrip to Samos in between. We did lots of swimming which was great as it’s quite hot here now. Izmir doesn’t have any swimming beaches that are close – we have to travel to Çeşme which is about an hour away. Madeline loved it at the beach in Samos – there were lots of little fish that she could watch through her swimming goggles – she had a great time! I was intrigued that going to Greece there was no Swine Flu’ precautions, however coming back into Turkey we had to fill out forms and they had a heat camera at passport control. Who’da thought? Would have thought the EU to have been more proactive.
